Hi, I’m Rachel.
I’m dyslexic. For most of my life, reading felt slow and frustrating.
I loved stories, but I didn’t love how hard they were for me to get through. Books felt like something I was supposed to be good at, not something I got to enjoy.
In 2020, I found BookTok. I saw women my age reading for fun. Crying over fictional characters. Talking about plot twists like they were reality TV. It didn’t look academic or intimidating. It looked fun.
So I tried again.
I started picking up books that felt accessible. Romance. Fast-paced fiction. Anything that made me want to keep turning the page. And something shifted. Reading stopped being about proving I could do it. It became a hobby. An escape. A way to unwind after work.
By day, I work in corporate tech sales in Chicago. It’s structured, competitive, numbers-driven. I love it. But I also needed something creative. Something that felt like mine.
At home, I’m a wife, a daughter, a sister, and the friend who will absolutely text you about a plot twist at 11pm. My life is full and busy, like most women’s. Reading became the thing that slowed it down.
The Well Read Book Club started because I wanted to take the energy I saw online and bring it into real rooms. I wanted women to have a place where reading felt social and light. Where you didn’t have to be literary or polished. Where you could just show up and talk about a book.
I’m not an English major. I don’t annotate with color-coded tabs. I’m someone who fell back in love with reading and built a space around that feeling.
